“Hospitality should have no other nature than love” [Henrietta Mears (1891-1963, America Presbyterian Educator)]
During times of persecution, hospitality was especially important and could be dangerous. So Jesus indicates that those who provide it and show kindness to God’s people will receive a reward. That reward for us is God’s unconditional love. Sunshine Cathedral is a progressive, inclusive church open to all people. The Bible teaches that God loves to give good gifts to us (Mt 7:11). One of God’s best gifts is the gift of human freedom. On this special day where we remember our freedom the MCC Core Value of Social Action calls us to stand with those who suffer under the weight of oppressive systems, guided always by our commitment to Global Human Rights.
Loving God, this day we commit ourselves to living a life of hospitality. We stand with those who suffer under the weight of oppressive systems. We pray for freedom and justice for all.
